New Member Guide

Dues

PSIA-AASI primarily operates through an annual dues structure. Dues cover the period from July 1 to June 30 of the following year, encompassing a winter season, and include a Region and a National component. Late fees apply to dues paid after June 30. For current rates, visit the Dues & Rates section of the Membership page.

Certification

The Northern Rocky Mountain Region offers certification programs for its members, including associated clinics and assessments. For many members, certification is their primary reason for joining PSIA-AASI. Certification is available in three levels, but the specific process varies for each snowsports discipline — check the discipline page for the sport you’d like to be certified in.

If you wish to take a certification assessment event in a region other than Northern Rocky Mountain, you will need to contact the NRM Region office first. Other regions may charge different amounts for dues, clinics, and certification assessment events, and may impose different requirements or processes for certification.

Certification Maintenance

After you earn a certification, to maintain it in good standing you must either:

  • complete six hours of educational credits per season, or
  • average 12 hours of educational credits over every two-season period.

If you complete more than six educational credits in a single season, the extra credits will be applied to the CEU requirement for the next season; extra CEUs carry over only one season. If these educational requirements are not met, a monetary penalty will be applied to your annual dues statement, and a lapse of several years will result in the loss of your certification. For more information, see Maintaining Your Certification.

Clinics

We offer clinics throughout the season at various member schools. Information on all region educational opportunities is posted on our event calendar by late October each season. Each event page details its prerequisites, costs, intended outcomes, and location. You may also browse the events we offer on each discipline’s page.

Clinic enrollment and space is limited by location and education staff availability; you are encouraged to sign up early to guarantee a spot. If you register within a week of an event, a late fee will be assessed.

Events provided by other regions are listed on their websites — see the national PSIA-AASI website for other region information.

New Instructor Guide

PSIA-AASI has put together several resources to help you start your career as an instructor. A free e-learning course is available at lms.thesnowpros.org, which will help enhance your on-snow training as well as being a great way to learn more about your job. A downloadable PDF version of the New Instructor Guide is available as well. Check them out!

Educational Materials

Many helpful documents, such as certification information, workbooks, and preparation material, can be found on each discipline’s page. There is also an online store where you can review and order the PSIA-AASI manuals and other education materials.

Scholarships

The Northern Rocky Mountain Region offers scholarships to help cover certain clinic costs for qualifying members. Typically, scholarships are awarded each December and February. Please see the Scholarships page for additional information.

Region Newsletter

The Northern Rocky Mountain Region publishes an electronic newsletter periodically. It provides members with important information about upcoming events, our member schools, and region news — it is your best resource for activities, including opportunities to get further involved with PSIA-AASI.

National Membership Tools

As a National member of PSIA-AASI, you also receive a mailed copy of the National organization’s magazine, 32 Degrees, which provides a variety of useful information for instructors.

The PSIA-AASI member portal is another great resource. To access the site, you’ll need to log in with a username and password: the email address you provided for membership is your username, and your member ID number, located on your ID card, is your initial password.

Through the website you will find Pro Deals (including offers on clothing and equipment), an instructor toolkit, and your personal PSIA-AASI record, including your school affiliation, address, certifications and certificates, education history, and payments. Please use this resource to keep your address and school affiliation current.
