Snowboard Education Team Program

NRM Snowboard Education Team Program

If you are a Snowboard Level III certified member in good standing and are interested in furthering your education and working toward becoming an assessor, you will want to apply for the NRM Snowboard IT Program.

The IT (In Training) program is for members who wish to someday become a member of the NRM region education and, possibly, assessment staff. This group has their own coach to help them work toward their goal. They work together as a group at fall training each season. Members are also encouraged to attend mid-season training, observe regional education and assessment events whenever possible, attend Snowboard Committee meetings, and NRM board meetings.

In order to participate in this program, members must:

  • Be a Snowboard Level III certified member in good standing with AASI NRM
  • Submit a Letter of Intent to the Snowboard discipline chair ([email protected]) or the NRM region office ([email protected]) before November 1 of the current year. The chair may follow this up with a phone interview.

This is not just a training program. Participation with this group signifies intent to apply for a job with NRM. Participants in the IT program who choose not to continue on this path will be directed toward other NRM training programs that fit closer to their goals.

  • Email the NRM Snowboard discipline chair a completed summary of the Level I assessment event you shadowed: a general timeline of when, what, where, who, and why you did what you did.
  • Email the NRM Snowboard discipline chair a summary of your own version of an AASI NRM Level I assessment event, as if you were leading.
  • The NRM Snowboard Education Committee will vote on whether you are ready to become a DCE-1 or need to continue your training.

AASI NRM Hiring Event

The hiring event happens each spring and registration is required. Historically, the on-snow skills assessment part of the hiring process has happened after the final certification assessments. However, NRM may hire employees when the need arises.

Who can apply?

  • Returning Snowboard Education Team staff
  • NRM members in good standing who have completed one season in the IT program and have their CS2
  • Education staff members/assessors transferring from other regions who have their CS2

National Team members/coaches/selectors determine a game plan for the on-snow portion of the hiring event and make the final hiring decisions. Once determined, they will notify the Snowboard discipline chair, Snowboard assistant discipline chair, coaches, and the NRM region office. If hired, you will be expected to attend the Administration Orientation at Fall Training or after the Spring Hiring event.

Requirements to Maintain Assessor Status
  • Member in good standing of NRM (dues paid in full)
  • Commit to at least four days of availability each season

Assessors have a three-year term and may need to reapply for their status at the completion of their terms.

Note: It is recommended that assessors attend training every year. Contact the Snowboard discipline chair for more information.
